Ethical Charter Guide


Each profession is known to have its ethics, charters, and principles that determine the professional and moral behavioral criteria that are to be adapted and respected by those who are practicing such professions, noting that the mentioned persons should bear their full occupational responsibility. Indeed, the ethical responsibility is totally different from the legal liability in that the latter focuses on defining certain legislations that are being applied by the force of law on the contrary to the ethical responsibility which is broader and inclusive due to its concentration on the relationship between human beings and their Creator, themselves, and others that's why it is considered a personal and binding responsibility towards Allah, and their consciousness as well.  


Ethics of the Teaching/Educational Profession

They are virtuous morals that those who are practicing the profession should have in the field of education /teaching on both the behavioral and intellectual levels that bring upon them in several ethical duties entailing integrity and credibility.

It is worth noting that the entire Educational Institutions seek to promote a group of ethical charters with a view to controlling the employees in a way that ascertains the existence of an ethical reference which fulfills the efficiency and transparency measures of these institutions. These ethical charters also should contribute to the implementation of the process of rationing the traditions and norms that are included in the charter of ethics so as all the employees including the teaching staff, their assistants, employees, and students to adhere to them in order to sublime the value and dignity of humans in addition to creating a positive public opinion. Also, aiming at the development of the educational/ academic process in the Faculty. Hence, the Faculty has prepared and developed the Ethical Charter Guide for the purpose of protecting the freedom of education and insuring the academic equity in addition to being a remedy to the breaches that are committed by the parties who adhere to the charter.

Guide of General Principles

1)   Integrity: Honesty begins by the individuals themselves then extends to others, thus it should reflect the application of ethics as ideal practices.

2)   Responsibility & Efficiency:- Responsibility and efficiency develop thanks to the democratic and ethical management that ensures the fulfillment of a very precise and tight balance between the need for effective management and the need for encouraging the entire contributions of the Faculty staff through allowing the professors, researchers, students, and administrative officials in the decision making process.

3)   Mutual Respect:- The Faculty Staff should be treated with great respect and fairness while committing to deal in the same way no matter what their ranks are in the career hierarchy.

4)   Verification of Truth and Positive Criticism:- Truth and positive criticism are two basic principles for searching for and reviewing the teaching methodology that is adopted by the Faculty since the verification of the truth requires the availability of great efficiency and critical observation of the facts and experiments; while comparing the different points of view, the accuracy of resources and the cognitive precision. Besides, the scientific research that has been conducted should be based on academic integrity and social influence.

5)   Academic Freedom:- This principle is considered as the basis element of University activity because it is a method for guaranteeing the process of expressing the entire critical opinions without any oppression or omission in the light of respecting the rights of others.

6)   Fairness: Impartiality and objectivity are two fundamental prerequisites for ensuring the application of fairness during the exams, recruitment, assessment, and promotion processes.

7)    Efficiency:- Each member of the Staff should perform his/her assigned duties efficiently as such member will bear full responsibility for his/her decisions and acts. Moreover, the members of the Faculty Staff are also responsible for the right and accurate utilization of the resources and information that are in his/her possession.  

8)   Non- Bias: Each member of the Staff should be impartial and objective in the process of decision making within the framework of respecting the applicable rules and guaranteeing the fair treatment of all other colleagues and performance of all the tasks vested to his/her; while avoiding any kind of bias for a person/party more than the other.

2) The Faculty Staff, Assistants, and Students:-

The Faculty has developed this ethical charter with a view to enhancing the association of each member of the his message and vision alongside with his contribution in the development of the society.

This Guide includes the following points:-

1.    The Ethical Guide to the Relationship with Colleagues.

2.    The Ethical Guide to Teaching Methodologies.

3.    The Ethical Guide to Research, Authorship, and Supervision on MAs and PhDs.

4.    The Ethical Guide to Students' Assessment and Organization of the Exams.

5.    The Ethical Guide to the Relationship with Students.

6.    The Ethical Guide to the Relationship between the Students and the Faculty Staff.

7.    The Ethical Guide to Community Service.

8.    Procedures adopted for preserving the Copyrights and Authorship Rights.

9.    Professional Ethics that are to be followed when accepting any presents or donations.


v The Ethical Guide to the Relationship with Colleagues:-

The Faculty staff and their assistants should comply with the following:-

1)   Respect the rights of the other colleagues and accept the mutual advices and recommendations.

2)   Beware/watch your language and words with colleagues, administrative officials, and students.

3)   Beware of your language attitude and choice of words with colleagues, administrative officials, and students.

4)   Keenness on Scientific Mutual Exchange and Co-operation.

5)   Flexibility in the relationship with the colleagues without any bias towards any of the faculty staff more than the others because of their gender, age, or religion.

6)   Future Planning.

7)   Effective support on both the professional and personal levels in order to solve the various problems.

8)   Maximizing the positive values and minimizing negative values.

9)   Adherence to integrity with colleagues and preservation of confidential data and Information.

10)         Keenness on the interest of the colleagues. 


v  The Ethical Guide to Teaching Methodologies:-

1)   – To excuse oneself to teach any courses or supervise or judge or discuss any MAs or PhDs that are pertaining to any of the staff relatives till the fourth degree.

2)       Self- Confidence and preservation of the physical appearance as appropriate to the professional position.

3)   Selecting appropriate and precise words.

4)   Complying with the religious aspect, customs, and traditions.

5)   Controlling personal emotions and reactions.

6)   Co-operating with all colleagues and students.

7)   Awareness of the entire community problems.

8)   Integrity and devotion at work.

9)   Reviewing courses' description that the teaching staff and their assistants will teach, sign, and proposals, amendments or additions so as to be presented to the council of the competent department or to the Students' Affairs Committee in case such course is a general one.

10)    Good and accurate preparation of the scientific courses so as to be aware of its latest developments in order to excel its developments which qualify such member to efficiently teach the course.

11)    Careful and regular preparation of both (exercises and laboratory sessions) before delivering the lecture and within a sufficient time so as to cover the entire new elements of the course.

12)    The member of the teaching staff should explain the objective of the course to the students and its relation to the labor market so as to be familiar with the entire details of the syllabus, their assignments, and quizzes.

13)    The load of the course work should be included in the entire utilized materials so as to measure the level of students' benefits.

14)    Members of the teaching staff and their assistants should specify and announce certain office hours for helping the students and answering their inquiries; noting that such hours should not overlap with the dates and times of their lectures and laboratory sessions.

15)    Good exploitation of the lectures for achieving interests of not only the students but also of the University and the whole society.

16)     Developing the students' cognitive skills and urging them to think independently respecting their opinions.]

17)    Urging the students to the effective participation through following the common conversation norms and principles and as per the etiquette of conversation so as to create better educational opportunities.

18)    Excelling in the teaching skills and methodologies in addition to utilizing the latest tools and software that are to help him/her to deliver an interesting lecture.

19)    Deliver the lectures and all the practical sessions with great integrity and devotion for developing the cognitive and moral growth in addition to following up the students' performance as much as possible.

20)    Present a good example of the democratic values that are related to the freedom of thought, expression, and equity. He/she should work on developing the value in the students.

21)    Adherence to the right guidance of the students regarding the entire sources of knowledge and references that may help them fulfill the necessary academic achievement.

22)      Awareness of the scholarships offered in the field of specialization and urging the students to benefit from these opportunities.

23)       Refraining from giving any private tutoring under any 

           circumstances either paid or unpaid.


v  The Ethical Guide to Research, Authorship and Supervision of Scientific Dissertations:-

1)   The researcher should improve his/her capabilities and enrich his/her information through constant reviewing of all of the latest parts that are published in scientific journals and periodicals.

2)   Conducting Researches that are to serve the community and humanity as a main ethical commitment of their profession and Keenness on publishing his/her researches in international conferences or scientific journals for upgrading the academic level of the Faculty and the University.

3)   Integrity in implementing his/her researches, thus he/she should not plagiarize and attribute his/her ideas and work. Using others' works should be known and limited.

4)   Attributing the entire books and publications to their real authors and writers. It is not ethically appropriate to replace the names of the references for the purpose of having any financial gains or elevated scientific status.

5)   The number of quotes written from source literary work should be clear and comprehensible without any ambiguity or relapse. References should be clearly mentioned without omitting any parts of the conveyed texts

6)   Roles of the individuals who are participating in the research should be accurately explained while refraining from including any names as a compliment.

7)   The data mentioned in the curriculum studied by the students should be updated for avoidance of the presentation of any wrongful or inaccurate information to those students.

8)    Respecting Intellectual Property Rights of others through following the entire legal procedures for reserving the property rights of the books and publications of the teaching staff and their assistants.

9)   Integrity and objectivity when selecting the topic of the thesis and the research.

10)  Insuring the ability of the researcher to implement his/her research under the supervision of the competent professor.

11)  Encouraging the researcher to the creative thinking in the field of specialization and to provide the necessary scientific assistance and support that should not exceed the rates so that the students will bear his/her responsibility or less than the acceptable rates which may deprive the students from benefiting from their supervising professors.

12)     Qualifying the students to bear the responsibility of their researches, analyses, and conclusions, while developing their readiness to defend them.

13)     Continuous emphasis on integrity and confidentiality.

14)     Training students on the independent assessment and free selection when implementing their research. Students should bear responsibility for their decisions.

15)     The precise and fair judgment of the researches either those researches the professor is supervising or is intending to participate in its judgment.

16)     Refraining from competing with other colleagues for supervising theses of postgraduate students and committing to the rules that regulate such procedures adopted by the competent department or the Council of the Faculty.

17)  Refraining from dealing in any humiliating or inappropriate behavior when in contact with the students or discrediting their abilities either when conducting the research or at public viva of dissertations' discussions. This may lead the professor to violate the ethical responsibility that is related to the ethical, righteous, and educational growth of the students.


v Ethical Guide to Students' Assessment and Preparation of the Exams:-

1)   Announcing the dates of any exams within a sufficient period of time prior to their preparation while committing to set exams that are suitable for determining the level of students' understanding of the courses that have been taught adding to measuring applied abilities of the Students'. These exams should be set in a way that contributes to revealing the differences between the educational achievements of each student.

2)   Adhering to the exams schedule as announced by the Faculty's administration.

3)   Abiding by fairness and quality procedures when designing the exams so that the exams be set in consistence with what is being taught or attained in order to differentiate between the various levels of students.

4)   The questions of the exams should not be disclosed or revealed as this contradicts the fulfillment of fairness and efficiency requirements in the process of students' education.

5)   Regulating the exams in a way that ensures the application of firmness and fairness.

6)   Abiding by accuracy, fairness, and discipline at the examination rooms.

7)   The member of the teaching staff should be in attendance during the exams of any courses that he/she has taught so as to answer the questions and inquiries of all of the students clearly.

8)   Cheating should be – completely prevented, and in case of asserting that any of the students has cheated, such student should be punished.

9)   Members of the Faculty Staff should not set or control any exams that are sat for by their relatives. 

10)  Model answers of each exam should be provided so as to be graded based on them.

11)  Accuracy in grading the answer sheets, preparing, and organizing the results with great confidentiality and preciseness.

12)  Results should be presented to the examiners' committee without disclosing any names for the purpose of taking the necessary decision and so as to ensure the fulfillment of fairness and equity.

13)  Results grading process should be performed accurately and with great confidentiality.

14)  The final results should be audited in the event of presenting any grievances that is to be seriously considered.

v Ethical Guide of Dealing with Students:-

1)   Students are of various types, thus each of them should be treated with the appropriate methods.

2)   Education is known to be the right of each student, therefore; such right should not be denied through refraining from withholding any information students may need; noting that you should answer all the inquiries of the students and clarify any ambiguous points.

3)   The lecturer should not leave the lecture room except after confirming that the students have comprehended the points that were tackled and covered at the lecture.

4)   Students should be treated according to a humanitarian concept without exploiting the authority that is granted to the members of the teaching staff. Good treatment of the students fulfills the intended objectives and creates a friendly relationship between the students and the faculty staff.

5)    Penalties and sanctions should be applied on any non-committed or violating student as agreed and announced by the administration of the faculty.

6)   Students' personal freedom should be respected.

7)   Students should be encouraged to discuss and manage any dialogue or conversation with the members of the teaching staff and the assistants for determining their talents and be encouraged to innovation and creation in the entire fields of life.

8)   Teaching methodologies should be updated as per the most recent international academic fields so as to cope with the current developments.

9)   Students should be provided with the knowledge and experience of the members of the teaching staff when preparing projects, researches, and studies.

10)  Compliance with objectivity when assessing the students without any compliments under any circumstances.

11)  Spreading the spirit of cooperation among the students and urging them to teamwork and refraining from individualism.

12)  Committing to the dates of the lectures and office hours in addition to supervising the performance of the students in the different activities of the Faculty and to promoting the righteous values and morals of the students.  

13)  Participating in the students' activities, encouraging their talents in an innovative way that contributes to the righteous ethical building of the students' consciousness.

14)  Promoting the ethical and behavioral values in the students so as to be a role model for the whole Faculty - as an academic institution that is concerned with research and community service- when enrolling into the labor market.

v Ethical Guide to University Service:-

1.    Performing the entire required tasks accurately and with devotion to the purpose of upgrading the entire affairs of the Faculty in particular and the University in general, alongside with overcoming the impediments standing against the implementation of such affairs.

2.    Exerting all the necessary efforts for assisting and developing the skills of the teaching staff members including all of the assistant lecturers, demonstrators, or any member of the teaching staff who is of lower career hierarchy or who has less experience when required.

3.    Loyalty to the Faculty and refraining from seeking any personal benefits or gains.

4.    The teaching staff members and their assistants should be aware of the strategy adopted by the University and the Faculty in addition to the awareness of the Faculty's vision and mission.

5.    Preserving the public funds using all the necessary methods either through the materials such member is utilizing or through expressing his/her opinion and participation in the competent committees.

6.    Complying with the entire applicable regulations, laws, and systems that organize the academic process in the Faculty.

7.    Honorable representation of the Faculty which the member of the teaching staff is representing.

8.    Refraining from exploiting the equipment and capabilities except for teaching purposes and for conducting the necessary scientific researches.

v Ethical Guide to Community Service:-

Members of teaching staff and their assistants are of the most influential members in the whole society, thus they should possess the entire positive ethics that contribute to community service of which are:-

1)   Performance of his/her work professionally and with devotion.

2)     Contribution to the development of the whole community through his/her skills, and cultures for improving the whole society.

3)   Capability of adapting to different cultures and categories of the society on all of the personal, academic, and practical levels.

4)   Participating in the various seminars and conferences that serve and develop the society.

5)   To be a role model and good example for the whole society members through the enhancement of the ethical, religious, and cultural values of the society.

6)   Keenness on developing the applied research process while linking it to the real labor market.

7)   Keenness on preparing the human potentials that are needed by the society and providing them with the most recent experiences and academic knowledge.

8)   Teaching staff members should participate in all of the seminars that aim at the development of the community in the field of specialization.

v Procedures adopted for preserving the Copyrights and Authorship Rights:-

1)   Preventing the utilization of the entire ready unlicensed software in the Faculty.

2)   Preventing the employees of the Faculty from copying any literary works as this will represent a violation to the rights of the author so as to protect both the technical and literary papers.

3)   Setting the necessary guidelines for the visitors of the library and the labs in order to guarantee the compliance with the rules listed in the intellectual property law.

4)   Holding open seminars and meetings for discussing the intellectual property rights, their importance, and the necessity to comply with these rights.

v Professional Ethics that are to be followed when accepting any gifts or donations:-

1)   It is not permitted to accept any donations or gifts from any authority except upon obtaining the consent of the University Council; noting that such donations should be presented to the Faculty.

2)   In case the Faculty has already obtained any kind of presents or donations or endowments from any local or foreign authority, such gifts or donations should be received after confirming the consent of the Faculty and the University Councils so as for the attitude of the Faculty to be transparent and away from any suspects.

3)   The acceptance of any gifts or donations by the Faculty, should not –by any means – affect the decisions or the policies of the University.

v Ethical Guide to the Faculty Dean:-

1.    The Faculty Dean is the only person who is concerned with determining the management methodology of the Faculty; this methodology will directly impact the general atmosphere of the whole Faculty and the organizational environment. It would be illogical if the Dean insists on managing the Faculty with an oppressive way that focuses on shutting up the opponents and encouraging the supporters.

2.    The development of the Faculty Staff's and Students' democratic values always requires a suitable atmosphere and actual practice so that all of the competent parties comprehend the importance of expressing their opinions through the entire legal channels.

3.    The Faculty Dean should be responsible for developing the values of discipline, commitment, and time respect, in addition to controlling the behavior of the Faculty  Staff, setting the schedules, and the attendance timings in general, confirming the commitment of all the staff to their duties and obligations, applying the accountability measures in the event of any negligence, taking the necessary corrective measures, punishing the violating parties and rewarding those who are performing their jobs with devotion.

4.    The Faculty dean should treat the professors, employees, and students of the Faculty with fairness and equality so as to contribute through this behavior in the development of the aforementioned values.

5.    The Faculty Dean should contribute to the moral and educational development of the Faculty through the assertion on teamwork atmosphere in order for all the staff to work in teams and within various groups, and that the success of working within these teams is still possible and its opportunities are larger.

6.    The relationship between the Faculty Dean and the students' guardians should reflect the keenness of the Dean on the interests of the Students. Such keenness is considered as a main professional commitment that deepens the mutual responsibility between the aforementioned parties regarding the righteous ethical development of the students and affirms the importance of the conversational values for the purpose of solving the entire academic and non-academic problems.

7.    The Faculty Dean should bear full responsibility for controlling both the exams and behavior of the students with the aim of preventing any cheating, leniency, or rigidity.

8.    The aforementioned points are also connected with the Dean's responsibility for developing fair competition culture so as to pave the way before equal opportunities principle and highlight any excellency, develop any talents, prove the efficiency of any of the members for promoting the importance of excellency, the acceptance of the others' professionalism, and the legal pursue to reach such excellency.

9.      The Faculty Dean is also responsible for creating a very safe and satisfying academic and psychological atmosphere for all of the Faculty Staff who are expected to be more innovative, creative, and able to express their opinions and thoughts freely.

10.The Faculty Dean is responsible for protecting the public orders in the Faculty.

11.The Faculty Dean should be responsible for the efficient utilization of the available resources and especially the public funds, and thus rationalize the spending, and taking the precautionary measures when empowering any authorities when purchasing, and when forming any committees such as: opening sessions' committee, receipt committee, and decision making committees that are concerned with reserving the public funds.

12.    The Faculty Dean should be precise and objective when forming the selection or estimation or inspection or scientific committees, or any other committees that may affect individuals or the University.

13.The Faculty Dean should achieve the necessary balance between both his/her professional and human obligations. The mentioned Dean should not take any procedures that are related to the promotion of any of the members of the teaching staff without ascertaining the academic and professional entitlement of the member to such promotion and should refrain from suspending or delaying any promotion of any of the members for personal reasons. The Dean should care for the public interest and the interest of the member to be promoted.

14.The Faculty Dean should bear full responsibility for the development and availability of the opportunities before the young leaders as the qualification of such young leaders or second or third generations of responsible and professional leaders is considered as the main professional responsibility of the University Leaders.

15.The Faculty Dean is responsible for taking the entire procedures that preserve the dignity and status of the University professors or the reputation of the University itself.

16.The Faculty Dean should guide and direct the teaching staff and employees of the Faculty to community service due to be a basic part of the University responsibility and direct the University activities to enhance such responsibility as required.

v    Ethical Guide to the Administrative Bodies   

1.    Performing the assigned tasks accurately and with great integrity, objectivity, and impartiality regardless of the workflow and without affecting the personal ideologies or beliefs.

2.    Preserving the public funds of the Faculty whether the trusteeships or the resources that are being utilized in the same way of preserving private and personal funds without permitting their utilization for personal benefits.

3.    Emphasizing the importance of cooperation and teamwork for the purpose of achieving the anticipated success.

4.    Emphasizing the importance of friendly spirit and refraining from forming any unofficial groups or dealing with any intolerance or prejudice.

5.    Preserving respect of senior professors and conveying entire experiences to junior members, while committing to conversational orders when discussing any difference of opinions.

6.    Rejecting any negative habits such as envy, mistrust, secrets disclosure, and spreading of rumors….etc.

7.    Employees of the Faculty should cope with the entire recent aspects in the field of Information Technology; in addition to asserting on the democracy of the administration of the Faculty for general good.

8.    Improving social relationships between colleagues in various occasions. 


v Ethics of relationships with the scientific and administrative councils and committees:

Among the crucial ethical principles that the Faculty's or the University's scientific and administrative councils and committees should adhere to are:

-       Confidentiality /Anonymity Principle.

-       Objectivity Principle.

-       Adherence to decisions principle.

-       Effective Participation Principle.
